Hexapod Basics

Hexapod is a competitive 1v1 tactical exploration game. Each player commands a swarm of insects, expanding across an evolving hexagonal battlefield. Discover hidden terrain, seize nectar-rich zones, and outmaneuver your opponent’s Queen.Every match is unique thanks to procedural terrain generation, asymmetric bug abilities, and a race-to-10 scoring system.

How to Win

Victory goes to the first player to earn 10 Nectar points.✦ Control a Nectar Hex = +1 point each turn✦ Kill an enemy bug = +1 pointBut beware: if your Queen falls, you lose 3 points and your swarm can no longer spawn from her.It’s a race, a hunt, and a battle of wits all at once.

Board & Terrain

We are inspired by the shape of Gliński’s hexagonal chess board like Hive the board game. Our twist comes from discovering the board to find advantages terrain and most imporatntly Nectar

After a few turns

This is what the board game look like after a few turns has elapsed. Players fight, scavenge and contest Nectar to win the game.

Terrain Types

Nectar Hex: Generates points
Dense Forest: Ground units move faster, flying slower
Lake: Water bugs gain abilities, ground units slow
Windy Fields: Buffs flying bugs
Nest Hex: A new spawning ground
Neutral Hex: No effect

How a Turn Works

Actions available:

Each turn, you get 2 actions.
You cannot use both actions on the same unit.
✦ Play a Bug Card → Spawn a new unit near your Queen or Nest✦ Move a Unit → Advance and possibly discover new terrain✦ Use a Unit’s Ability → Attack, or activate special abilities✦ Harvest Nectar

Gameplay flow:

❶ Early Game: Explore, find Nectar❷ Mid Game: Contest Nectar and spawning hexes❸ Late Game: Coordinate the decisive strike
